Telecommunications (ADA Title IV)
How will the ADA make telecommunications accessible?#
Title IV of the ADA required the establishment of telephone relay services for individuals who use TTY (teletypewriter) devices. The FCC issued regulations setting standards for relay service operations. In 2010, Congress updated these protections with the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA), which extends ADA-era accessibility requirements to modern communications — including digital, broadband, and mobile technologies.
